Hi from Abie & Joy in the UK - Soap-box / Speakers Corner - Invisible Church (South Africa)

Rom 5:1 1-2 Since then it is by faith that we are justified, let us grasp the fact that we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have confidently entered into this new relationship of grace, and here we take our stand, in happy certainty of the glorious things he has for us in the future. (J.B. Phillips)

Hi from Abie & Joy in the UK was created by Abie
We were in the Invis from 1975 to 1980 and now living in the UK. We hope this website will soon be full of old faces.

In 1976 I inherited a lot of money. When the elders heard about it, they approached me and asked me to bail the church out of heavy debts. I gave thousands of rands.

In 1979 the church started a fellowship in Carrington heights. I was one of the leaders. By then my wife was pregnant with our second child. She had a difficult pregnancy. I asked the church if I could step down as an elder to see to my family. They called me in to a meeting and rebuked me for making my wife pregnant. They also questioned my marriage. This destroyed me spiritually. I took a transfer to Newcastle with my job. I did not say anything then because I did not want to stumble anyone. Some of the elders have since been divorced and remarried with everyone's blessings.?????????

Then in 1984, a brother from the Invis and I decided to start a business together. After all our plans were in place, I resigned from my job and with my wife and 2 babies, packed up everything and left Newcastle and trekked back to Durban. On our arrival, we were informed that plans have changed and we were promptly sent on our way. There we were, no job, no home.

After all these years I still have not committed to a church because of the hurt I suffered from the Invis and a brother.

I just had to get this off my chest. Maybe now, the healing process will start.

Joy and I have been happily married for 32 years now and have two beautiful children whom we are very proud of.

A confession from Abie.

I concur with you Abie! I always wondered what happened to you...nonetheless it's great to hear you get it off your chest! I am sure the healing has already started. You were right to leave quietly, because I am sure God would of dealt with those concerned, and you know what...(as I am sure you know by now), he did! This is not saying you should take satisfaction in their downfall, but as we all know, "Pride comes before a fall." I used to have a 'nickname' for these kinds of people in Church: "The Heavies"

God chooses 'Leaders... not Leaders.'

Personally I have never put faith in 'Mankind' religious or otherwise, since we are all so fallible, especially those who consider themselves to be at the 'top-of-the-heap;' that is why the Bible gives such dire warnings to those who abuse their positions, particularly so-called leaders in the Church. If you want to be a leader in a Church setting, or even a secular one, you have to be 'Whiter... Whiter than the Whitest Snow,' and that is not meant in a conceited way. What I am saying is you do not want to be a leader, or lead anyone, unless God gives you no choice, and makes it very clear: Gods choice of 'King David' is one of the best examples, rebuffing all the much more suitable candidates (choices), even to the amazement of the Prophet!

Even today in Churches we continually choose leaders based on their 'natural' human abilities, above those who are not so talented...will we ever learn! So take heart my friend, your decision to step down at the time was an absolute (dare I say), 'GOD' thing, you did what was right for your wife and family...and dare I say again: 'JESUS' would have done the exact same thing!

So all the best blessings the 'LORD' can pour on you and your beautiful wife and family!

Remember next time (oh yes there will be a next time), don't walk away from the Church, or God, because humans, we, us, are stupid; put your faith in God, not people, so many of us make this mistake and are 'broken' as a result of it (I have been there). The Apostle Paul (as far as I know), was the only one who could claim, if you followed him, and be like him, this would equate to following Jesus. There is no one else, and Paul is not with us anymore...so follow JESUS, no one else!

No more rambling...I hope I did not tire you!

Yours in the 'Ancient Of Days...forever'

Peter Spencer
